Where should appliance manuals and warranties go?
Organize documents by the item they describe, not only by file type. A folder called “Receipts” can hold hundreds of unrelated purchases. An appliance record puts its receipt, manual, warranty, and service notes in one context.
Hāvin Vault stores PDF and image records with the assets they belong to. Start with documents you already have; you do not need to reconstruct your whole home in one sitting.
Build a useful appliance record
- Identity: room or location, manufacturer, model, serial number, and a clear label photo.
- Purchase: date, retailer, and receipt.
- Documents: the correct manual and actual warranty terms.
- Service: completed work, date, provider, and supporting paperwork.
- Useful notes: a replacement part you previously used, with enough context to check compatibility next time.
Find the correct manual before saving it
Read the model from the appliance label and look for documentation on the manufacturer’s official website. Compare the model and revision covered by the manual. A similar product name is not enough to establish a match.
Store the document with the appliance and keep its source where practical. Hālo can help with available records on paid plans, but check important specifications against the manufacturer’s documentation.
Keep warranty evidence without assuming coverage
A saved receipt and warranty can help you locate the original terms and purchase evidence. Saving them does not extend the warranty or guarantee a claim will be accepted. Coverage, exclusions, registration requirements, and deadlines depend on the actual warranty.
For multiple appliances, use descriptive names such as “Kitchen refrigerator” and “Garage refrigerator” so records are easy to distinguish.
When a folder is enough
A clearly named cloud folder may be sufficient for a few documents. Hāvin becomes useful when you also want each item’s details, maintenance history, reminders, and selected sharing in the same place. Read the spreadsheet and folder comparison before choosing.
